Page 1Create a diagram of the Endocrine System. Use analogous imagery to explain the roles of the 8 glands presented in class. Include a brief explanation for the function of each gland and how your image represents that function. As an example, I used a thermostat interface to replace the thyroid. This is because the thyroid receives signals from the brain to produce thyroxin which maintains body temperature through the regulation of our metabolism. When you finish your diagram, find a video, TEDlesson/talk, animation, etc. that explains the function of the endocrine system and link it to your page. Use a button like the one below.

Page 2Create a diagram or animation that outlines the regulation of appetite in humans.
Include information on how disruptions in this pathway can contribute to eating disorders like obesity. Include a description of treatments for obesity using hormones like leptin and a description of their success/failure according to recent scientific studies. Use a button (like the one below) to link to a valid source that discusses the effectiveness of medical treatments for obesity. |
Page 3: Further InvestigationUse this final page to teach others about a process that is regulated by the endocrine system that we have not discussed in class. Use a diagram or animation in your explanation. Remember that you are teaching content to others. Do not just repeat the work of others but modify it so that you can explain it in terms that everyone can understand.
Lastly, investigate a disease that is due to malfunctions in the endocrine system. Explain the cause of the disease, the consequences, and how it is treated. Use a button like the one below to create a link to a website with more detailed information on the disease for those who are interested. Remember to include citations for all of the sources you use in this project. |
